AX 2009 report
Jul. 7th, 2009 09:45 am
You can see my report/photos from Thursday, here.
Friday morning bright and early I picked Char up at her hotel. Char doesn't get to come into LA that often anymore, so I took her over to the garment district to look for strange things... including UNDERPANTS. We kept getting distracted by shiny things... and then would go back to the battlecry of PANTSU, PANTSU. Eventually we found an entire warehouse of underpants, guarded by pretty heavy razorwire! Sadly, even they did not have required underpants. At least we tried.

Char gave me a cute cake and jewel celphone charm and a pretty adjustable rose-pearl necklace! MY WEAKNESSES.

The entire district was playing Michael Jackson anthologies on repeat and there were memorial shirts for sale everywhere. It was kind of heartwarming in a way.

After much exploring... we got cheap rhinestone t-shirts, found some crazy Michael Jackson shirts for Oscar and a pimp shirt for Jason... and then,... what did I see........ but a hot pink three-piece suit (at a place called Kings). You don't understand, I'd been looking for one for at least a year or two to do a Takarazuka Track Meet costume (Sumire's Flower Troupe). It's not QUITE as obnoxious pink as I would like, but it's still pretty darn good.AJ, next time I see you, it's PIMP TIME.

Char spotted these glasses! They are PERFECT for LEERON!

We then needed a break. Shopping for weird things is HARD WORK. TIME FOR BOBA TEA.
Really nice to spend some quality time with Char. <3

We went over to Anime Expo to hang out for a little while and then that evening had a lovely dinner with various USA and Japan cosplayers. Got to see Kyle, Sarah, Ginny, Paulo and Jia again!

Met Goldy, Tatsumi Inui and Kaname. <3 <3 They taught me and Jessie how to say flat-chested in Japanese.
Goldy has made like a MILLION awesome mecha and robot costumes.
Kaname and Tatsumi are on the most recent Cosmode cover, btw... looking awesome from Zone-00. (Zone-00 is the same artist as the Trinity Blood manga) I love the art for that series!! I wish it was translated!!! X( I've only been able to read a little bit of the first book. Supposedly it's coming out from TP in August. I hope so! I really like Kiyoami and Konnosuke. (ie, I like it enough that I've stared at 3 of the books in Japanese, even though I can't read it... lol)
Dinner was filled with all kinds of MEAT.

Found out that Goldy-san was planning on bringing out his Gurren Lagann (robot) costume the next morning, so I told him my husband and I cosplayed Gurren Lagann characters, too. He asked if we could come cosplay with him the next day (how nice!)... so after dinner was over, I rushed home to try and get some sleep so that I could get up early enough to get into Leeron and Kamina in the morning before my Kuroshitsuji shoot with Susan and Jason.
SATURDAY
Got to AX pretty early, but couldn't find Goldy! Had fun walking around as Leeron with Mitch as Kamina though. People seemed to be really amused by Leeron, which is awesome. I love giving people random glee. Was given lots of hugs and apparently adopted a little girl Simon.

Ran into Lionel(below three are by him)
Mitch had so much fun in his Kamina costume. :D that makes all the work I did on it worth it. :D His bandage-wraps were a little held back though. The second day we used a much better method.

Told all my friends if they saw the Gurren to text me.
Saw a lovely Haidee from Gankutsuou!... guuuh, I love Gankutsou.

Walked by these Last Exile cosplayers... MY GOD, HOW AWESOME ARE THEY. (photo from Lionel)

Actually I saw a lot of slightly older series being cosplayed at AX this year, like Chobits, Magic Knights Rayearth, Chrono Trigger... etc....! Very cool!
Changed into Black from Kuroshitsuji and had fun going to a meetup and doing a shoot with Susan and company. Everyone had such COOL costumes! XD Sadly in my rush I forgot to put the gothy-circus eye-tear makeup on. *____*
Really looking forward to getting some photos from Jason of our circus group! :D
Here's a big Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) group! (you can kinda sorta see me in the back. Photo by Lionel)

At this point, I was going to change into lolita and chill for a bit,... but Ali sent me a celphone pic of the FOUND GURREN! I ran to the parking garage and changed in the garage back into Leeron so I could go say "HI" to Goldy! It was fun getting some pics with him, and right after we found him, a huge group of Gurren Lagann cosplayers showed up! It was super cute. I just love that show.

"With your drill, thrust to the sky!"
Goldy's drill actually spun, btw... and his black "glasses" were removable! SO COOL.

After this I was pretty tired and needed SUGAR so Mitch and I got some food.

Then I changed into my black swan lake Metamorphose (I don't have a photo, sorry! *___* ) and attempted to repair my post-wig-hair in the convention center bathroom. ha ha, that was a bit special. I didn't even have a brush! Explored the dealers room a bit more.
Prinny wants to be loli, too! (at Starry Candybox booth)

Then helped Jessie, Henry and Char with a special Higashi no Eden photoshoot. (Photos to come)

Then went out with Char, Adam, Jessie, Diana and lots of other lovely folks. Met some nice people from Funimation, Otakon, Sakuracon and Anime News Network. Saw some Fourth of July fireworks.
SUNDAY
Woke up like a zombie and put on Leeron again and helped the husband patch up his tattoo paint. Met up with Oscar to do a shoot... (EPIC GURREN LAGANN WIND OF THE HEAVENS) I can't wait to see the shots, I think he got some really amazing ones....
and then said goodbye to everyone. Got some yummy Curry House with Ali and called it a day. Can't remember the last time I've been this tired after a con, but it's a satisfied tired.
To my lovely friends, I will leave you with BEAKER RICK ROLL:
