Oiran, Fluffy Cat, Ponyo

Still been dealing with moving, so I hadn't had time to draw, but yesterday I made myself sit down and finish two drawings that were a bit overdue. One is a secret for now,... the other is the clean lines for Judy's oiran! Hope she likes it! Here's the original sketch if you're curious.


Also, I wanted to read some fluffy shoujo (and I'm out of my staple ones) so I started reading "Beauty Pop". It's ok, but mainly I was amused by the main character's fat black cat, who is pretty much the same weight as my fat black cat, Youta. So I drew this image to mimic the manga's character sheet for larks.


Looking forward to Miyazaki's Ponyo! Mitch and I went to the Miyazaki museum last spring and they had a little bit about it then,... so somehow it feels nostalgic to see it being released in the USA now.

The drawing is wonderful, I really like the bending backwards elegance of the pose. Also the complexity of the clothing, the many layers etc.

Just saw Ponyo recently and was pleasantly surprised how they've returned to the original Ghibli magic (not a big fan of Howl or Earthsea) Maybe it has something to do with the simplicity of it? Definitely another classic in my opinion.

The 'Doesn't know bloodtype' made me laugh! The Japanese obsession with bloodtypes fascinates me. Also, a black cat of 8 kilo's is very impressive, mine is half!

But.. but where is the song?? *sings* Ponyo ponyo ponyo sakana no ko♪♪ I never saw the movie because I heard that it's veryveryvery much for little kids, but that song was EVERYWHERE last summer. I was totally expecting it in the trailer and was like, YOU LEFT THE BEST PART OUT, DISNEY! =D;;;
