sleeve fabric for Lia
Apr. 15th, 2009 10:29 pm
Made some Lia progress today. The lining is now mostly attached and the gathered trim is done (at least for the dress itself.) The sleeves are pinked, but they're just pinned in place to see how they'll look for now. Wasn't sure about the lace, but Cheryll likes it... and I think I do, too.
Had dinner with Annie and Jinyo at Ye Olde Kings Head ... which is fabulous at the very least for being called Ye Olde. XD Lots of London nostalgia. Had a Newcy Brown and Shepherd's Pie and some type of custard pudding... plus great conversation. So yay!
I also got to stare at the ocean right at sunset, which is pretty much one of my favorite things in the world. I'd apparently temporarily forgotten how calming the ocean is for me.

Date: 2009-04-16 01:58 pm (UTC)Man, seeing your progress photos is really making me want to start a robe à la française! Are you liking the pattern you chose? It's the JP Ryan one, right?

Date: 2009-04-16 04:06 pm (UTC)the pattern, the fit of it is really nice, and all the pieces (the stays, the pocket hoops, etc..) they all fit together nicely. I haven't had any fit issues yet (..... though when Judy and AJ put it on me this weekend, we'll see if there's somehow some magical problem at the end. I can't get into this kind of stays properly on my own and Mitch is like GUH about it.)
However, the pattern instructions are a bit hard to understand, in that the drawings and instructions are vague. So you kinda have to know how somethings work to understand it. I ended up writing the lady who made the pattern a couple times to figure out how things worked. It doesn't always help to look at an existing garment photo, either... (because there are different kinds and it's hard to see details, etc.)
but, I think I would recommend it with those caveats!

Date: 2009-04-16 04:10 pm (UTC)I do love the King's Head! Been going there since I was a kid (so a very long time) and have turned many of my friends into regular customers as well. They have the best mashed potatoes on the planet (which you'd know from having the shepard's pie!) If you like fish and haven't had them yet, their fish and chips are also amazing, not the least because they are the only non-greasy fish and chips I've ever had!

I dyed it blue for this, but I had some original white left over.
