some fashion stuff I've been inspired by lately:
CherryBlossom Girl
Skin Graft Designs
Viona-Art
porkshanks' DA

Been working on my steampunk design. I'm having a lot of fun playing around with it. ^_______^

I just bought the patterns.
I'm going to use some of my left-over-from-a-project-I-will-never-complete fabric for the skirt and jacket. Huzzah! I'm going to take the design from my fobwatch and embroider it (I hope) on the back of the jacket and add some small golden clock movements. I'll wear the victorian corset I made a while back underneath.

BELOW: Some of the other things shown are just little accessories I've gotten to put all over it when I'm done. ... the little glass ball and vial of sand glow in the dark. The gold clockwork item (to the middle left of the skirt) with the blue bead is a necklace. There's also a naval sextant in there (far bottom left). (LOVE!)

The gun is a Nerf gun that I'm going to mod. (it has a night light, too!) I started it last night. Man, Nerf guns are way cooler than when I was a kid. I'm impressed.

I just ADORE your steampunk design. It pleases me to no end to see more long skirts and silhouettes like that in Steampunk fashion.

I've seen some awesome mods of that same Nerf gun, too! I'm loving your accessories and can't wait to see your finished outfit!

the shape of the gun is a little like the Samaritan, which is charming to me. :)
... but my gun will be cyan and gold. I had a bunch of my grandma's old costume jewelry, so I'm putting some of those on the gun. you'd be surprised how many of those look like wires and pipes when you glue them together! :)

a lot of the historical sites have some if you look for split skirt or riding or hunting skirt, etc... :) The link I listed above (truely victorian)... try the Belle Epoch section on that site. but there are lots of different ones if you look around a little.

also try: http://www.longago.com/westernwomen.html
and Laughing Moon and Folkwear and I'm sure there are more...

That's pretty cool! Is this a specific character you are dressing up as, or what looks like (to me) a 1830-ish lady?

BTW, what's a steampunk design? (Sorry!)

Now if only I didn't suck at sewing ;) I had a blouse and corset made and now I am missing a skirt.

You can do a decent amount with a Nerf Maverick, but I gotta admin, it's almost too clunky and bland. I expected I'd like my maverick more then I do but I was even more happy with my other nerf paint job.

Though if you're doing other mods past just painting it I'm sure you can make it look even better.

I'm adding some random parts to it, but I like the overall shape of it, so it won't take too much work, hopefully.
I really like your second gun, too though! great shape!

more 1880-1900, roughly. maybe belle epoch.
it's a character I'm making up, just to have a fun design to make and wear.

I'd say "it's easy" but you never k now with these historical patterns. there might be a simplicity one though...! you could always take a sewing class at your local joanns or something. :) just takes practice

oh thank g0d you have a real skirt! I was gettin tired of just girls in corsets and stockings...

Will you have an interesting hair ornament/ headpiece too???

still considering the head. :) I'd rather not go with goggles though. I think I'd rather have neat glasses. So I'll probably have some sort of piled on hair, maybe plus a bit of hair ornament.

or maybe a military hat. maybe. or not. :) who knows!

don't do goggles. Everyone does those already

How about you attach similar little gears/clockwork ornament to your hat? With some velvet ribbon and in place of a feather something resembling dried fairy wings! *sweatdrop* Victorian~era was obsessive with fairies too...
