so we're doing storyboards on the new show at least partially on cintiqs! That's kinda exciting. A lot of studios are switching to do boards on cintiqs. In the short period I played with mine today, I like it! The pressure sensitivity is pretty yum. We'll see how it goes. I'll probably, at least for now, still do my thumbnails on paper.

See the Totoro poster behind my comp? It has gone with me to each cube since I can't even remember when. I've had it with me for years. It's a rough beatboard or dev drawing of them singing together.

in other news,...this Eugenio Recuenco silent-movie inspired photoshoot SLAYS ME.

Oooh....they use those where my husband works for the boards and concept art. I want one so badly (though it'd be ridiculous...I don't do that much computer art).

And... <3 Totoro. Feel good fave forever. ^_^

Aw, I love that photoshoot. You can't go wrong being inspired by Buster Keaton.

Gorgeous photoshoot and color me green with jealousy on that cintiq pad! I do enough computer art I want one but I'd have to sell my dolls. ;_;

We have a couple of the really big Cintiqs at our studio, but I've only played on them and they sort of bothered me! It took me ages to get used to using a tablet, though. You'd think drawing directly onto what you're drawing would be easier. Oh well. =^^=

*squints* What program do you draw your storyboards into?

Wha... =0o0=

You're so lucky. I've played with one at a convention a long while back. I hope I can get one someday, since... well, cintiq is cintiq. XD

I love my 21UX..but it's heavy as shit. It's really uncomfortable to hold in ones lap...though I get the best control over it that way. But I've been growing accustom to having it stay on its holder-thingermajig and draw from there. :D!

I wish those things were cheaper T_T
It would be good for me since my hand-eye coordination with a regular tablet and monitor sucks.

Before I read your post, I saw the picture of your wall and thought "AAHH! I'm in love with your wall!"

I saw the link for the tablets...very cool, but wow, that's the price of a computer! I think the most high end I've ever used was the intuos tablets at school which was a lot nicer than my ollllllld graphire 3 on my rusty laptop. I did buy a bamboo recently, but I'm waiting for my new computer to get here before I use it.

I have been dying to get a Cintiq since I found out about them. I would have to wait till tax time to even afford a small model. I don't know if I could use it with my laptop, but it would be worth it to have one.

I have a friend though with no job, but a mother willing to buy him the $3k model. No justice in life.

it almost is a computer! Luckily I didn't have to buy it. It's for work only.

I'd love to have one at home, (this one is just for work, and only while I'm working on this project probably) but you know, I can't afford it either.

We have a touchscreen laptop at work as well as a PC monitor combo that has a touch screen. I doubt it can compare with a Cintiq, but it may have to be an alternative for me. I know the PC released at $2K if I remember right. Now it sells for about $1300. It is worth some research. Wacom's are coo, but I would rather have zero degree of seperation from my art when working on the computer.

Are there any animation studios out there that would even loan out Cintiqs to their animators so they could work at home?

Let me know what you think -- I'd love to hear about your experiences. I'm missing my ASUS tablet PC dreadfully (my new computer doesn't have any drawing capacity), but it was so damn buggy that it needed to be retired. I'm contemplating a CINTIQ, but I'm holding off because major manufacturers keep dangling touch-screen laptops just beyond our reach. [Since tablet PCs seem to be slightly out of fashion at the moment, there aren't any super-awesome options out there, which is why I got the MacBook.]

Good luck with it!

I will be very sad the day that full animation is done on a cintiq. storyboards is one thing...

so far I really like the drawing quality. you can try different nibs to get different "feel" on the screen, too, like as if you were using a different softness pencil.
Some of my friends are using bamboo, I'm using felt.
I haven't yet gotten any slowdown when I'm sketching either, which was one thing I was afraid of.

so far though I haven't been doing anything like "painting" or anything like that. just sketching with one color.
the eraser on the back of the pen is very intuitive. unfortunately it's not antialiased (like the pen IS), at least in the program I'm using.

my only complaint is the problems inherent in the program we are using (just minor niggling things about how the menus are, that sort of thing.)
