is APE worth going to? I've never been before.
I seem to remember people saying good things about it?
I probably can't really go this year because of the steampunk convention. (or can I? dunno)

I think I've heard that of the three main conventions SDCC and Wonder Con are the ones you really want to go to for selling. I'm not too sure of APE personally.

i know nothing of APE... BUT..
i know nothing of APE... BUT.. Steampunk Convention is that same weekend up in San Jose, and the Steampunk Ball is that Friday night (Halloween) which doesn't interfere with APE at all :D

APE is a lot of fun, and I've always heard good things about sales. I'll be trying to go this year, dependent of course, on workfoo and whatnot.

I looove APE! It's one of my favorite conventions. It's totally laidback and small, which I love but isn't everyone's cup of tea--there's no costume contest, few people in costume at all, etc. There's basically one room with the writers and artists in it, and one small room (usually) where they have panels. But there aren't a lot of panels. It's mostly a great chance to get to talk with the artists and writers, assuming ones that you know and like are going to be there. I've never tried selling anything there, but I was talking about it with my brother-in-law...

There's usually a fun reception at the Cartoon Art Museum and other things like that.

Anyway, it depends on what you're looking for in a convention. :)

I've pretty much heard really great things about APE from other artists and I plan on possibly having a table there with [livejournal.com profile] rurouni_jedi.

I'd love to go to this someday - lots and lots of interesting artists and people go to this! Probably better to take the advice of someone who's actually gone, but it sounds like it could be a neat networking opportunity if nothing else.

I hear it's the Small Press Expo or MoCCA of the West Coast. More artsy and laid back than other comic conventions - mostly geared to the independent press.

We're actually flying in to exhibit this year. ^^ I'm looking forward to it~ :D

I have been told by multiple different comics folks that have been to APE a lot that it has not been so good lately. Especially for selling stuff.

What kyubikitsy said.. I've been there and have met with some of the exhibitors.

It's definitely a independent/small press/aritst con, and a whole lot smaller than Fanime or AX.

It's a lot like being at an artist alley with a few alternative presses in the mix.

Besides art, books, and printed stuff, there's a lot of (DiY) Artist made crafts and stuff there too.

It's fun and you get to meet all kinds of people and artists there.
