FIREFLY:
so I've been sitting around working on sketches and ideas for my next book. While doing this I've been watching Torchwood and rewatching Firefly. I'd forgotten how much I love the dialogue in Firefly, it's so yummy!

Mal: "Well they tell you: never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious."

so here's a sketch of Zoe.

Yay! I love Gina Torres! She's a completely underrated actress and I've been following her work since her initial appearances on Xena and Hercules, respectively.

Yay Firefly! It's one of my favorites. :) Lovely Zoe drawing! I think you captured her expression very well.

Not sure how much you're still playing WoW, but there are several references to Firefly in it, including a pet firefly with the flavour text, "Still flying..." a Gnome npc named Kaylee Smallfrye (She's an Engineer trainer), and a drink called Mudder's Milk. :D

eee firefly! just watched the whole series again (gotta introduce the SO to it, of course!), and found your blog via the girls drawin' girls site via a post I made to my art blog (http://daisychurch.blogspot.com/2008/08/comic-con-inspired-by-girls-drawin.html)... confusing, eh?:)

anyways, if you're LA-area, there are some really great bead stores down on Maple (st? blvd?) down in the fashion district downtown where I got a bunch of trimmings /beads for my halloween costumes the past few years- I know there's one huge one that had TONS of coral beads of all colors and shapes, so that area might be your best bet. That whole area on Maple (just further north of the santee alley/fashion district/ olympic area) specializes in more beads /feathers and sequin stores...

good luck!! : D

(ps- love the idea of your japan book- I've done a bunch of traveling in Japan as well, so it's neat to see that you did a book of your sketches- so cool!!)

I have a piece of coral that's about two inches long that you can have, but it's a piece of the base, it isn't branched at all. It's also not drilled as a bead. But you can have it if you want it!

Have you ever been to Valley of the Dolls in LA?
I think down one of the side streets nearby (maybe King St?) there's a bead shop where I bought some pink coral beads. They sell it by the strand which is expensive, but they have a pile of beads you can dig through and there they also have some of the coral beads loose.
Hope that helps... Good luck.

Yeah, the Fashion District, up around 7th, has a bunch of bead/trim/jewelry stuff shops. It's a good place to look, there is quite a variety.

oh man, that is so sweet of you! I really really appreciate it. I need something with more branches and a bit larger though for what I'm doing, but thank you so much. I ended up finding one eventually. <:)
