FYI, due to my server move, I'm having email trouble. *_* try to email me again if you are having trouble.

So I went up to Northern California to visit AJ and Judy this weekend. I just needed a bit of a break and I really didn't want to miss the Marie exhibit since it's closing soon.
The drive up was very pleasant.

Friday evening we went to Chef Chu's for really really good chinese food with friends. (walnuts and shrimp and shoots!!)

Saturday, slept in and then went with Judy to the Marie exhibit. The weather was amazingly beautiful. Seeing the exhibit, the Golden Gate and the ocean in such weather was a real treat.

Marie Antoinette and the Petit Trianon at Versailles Exhibit

We couldn't take photos in the MA section, but I got a book with images from the exhibit (lots of info in there, too, which I love...) The exhibit itself, I felt like could have had more information about parts of the house. They had some amazing things on display, but I wanted to known way more. Like they had two photos ONLY of her theater at the trianon and simply said that the mechanisms were high-tech for the time. I want to know more about it! I want bigger pictures!! They had access to it, but they didn't devote enough space or info to the subject, I think. Still, definitely worth the price and I still learned a lot. Seeing some of those famous paintings in real life (they were huge!) was pretty amazing. The famous muslin dress painting of Marie was just entrancing.

I'd like to learn more about Mme. Pompadour.

We saw mythical lolitas! This would so be me on another day.

I got this scarf with Marie's monogram on it.

then we looked at some other areas of the museum. Here's a couple things that struck my eye.

this is a carriage of sorts (a litter)

Then Judy took me "the pretty way" back to San Jose. The ocean was totally amazing.

That night we had crab cakes and pastries from Whole Foods.

AJ's cats (Yoyo and Bobo) love my suitcase:

Sunday AJ and Judy and I went to frou-frou tea. Sadly Cheryll was sick.

Later we had curry at Mitsuwa and took silly photos

Oscar came over and we all drank port and chatted. ^___^ It was really nice this weekend to just be lazy and sit around.

Monday morning I slept late and watched some Dr. Who (for the first time) while drinking tea and waiting for my celphone to charge. Yoyo thought this was a great idea. Dr. Who is pretty fun! I think I'll watch more!
Then I headed home.
On the way home I stopped at Casa de Fruita to get some garlic. :) (Casa de Merry Go Round!)

It was a really lovely weekend. I feel relaxed and fuzzy. (actually extra fuzzy because Judy gave me a pink bathrobe!)
Now I have to get caught up with errands and email...!

Have you ever been to the Petit Trianon? It's quite small but very nice and the garden setting is pretty.

It looks like you had an enchanting time! I'm glad you got away and had a chance to enjoy some beauty.

The exhibit looks amazing ~ it must have taken ages to set everything up so exquisitely. Beautiful.

I'm so glad that you had a great time, Aimee, although I'm still sorry that I couldn't join you. Thank you for sharing all the beautiful pictures -- The Legion of Honor is my favorite local museums -- and I can't wait to go to the exhibition tomorrow. Your tea looked lovely -- do you mind my asking where you went?

It's a kind of litter, more properly, a Sedan Chair. It has brackets for the two poles for chairmen or footmen to carry it about... Very ornate.

The exhibit sounds wonderful. The Petit Trianon was closed when I was last in Versailles a few years back, although it was open when I went the first time, ages ago, along with the Orangerie, which was an art gallery at that time (had a lovely Corot exhibit when I was there).

Love your white-mittened kitty! Looks so soft and content!

Lovely photos! I wish I could have seen the exhibit when I was in the area in Nov, but I don't think it had started yet or something!

And I kind of want dessert now. ;-)

Wow, that's amazing! You're so lucky; we never have stuff like this in New York! Course...I don't live anywhere NEAR the city. If I did, it'd be different. Great pictures!

Wow! It looks like you had a wonderful time. After reading Antonial Fraser's book, I would also love to see those paintings and items in person. Beautiful! The carriage (litter) comes also in an English version called a sedan chair. Or even very similar to a pallanquin(sp?). The tea looks wonderful. You'd be hard pressed to find anything so nice like that even in England! :)

if it does, you should go! apparently the only reason it's hear is because the trianon is under repair, so they allowed the items to travel for a bit.

I went to the Met on a Chorus trip for my High School. I live Upstate around a city called Rochester. There's NOTHING there. It's such a dead place--makes me sad. I need to take a roadtrip with some friends some time to visit New York City again eventually....Sorry, random thought. ^_^;

Just got back from the museum and had a fabulous time! The exhibition was a little smaller than I expected, but everything was so carefully chosen. It was amazing to see so many Le Brun paintings that I never thought that I would see in real life.

I looked up Lisa's Tea Treasures and it looks lovely, chain or not. I'll have to mention it to the Campbell breakfast group.
