layering and Mr. Bento
Jan. 21st, 2007 06:42 pmafter much deliberation I ordered Mr. Bento. I really think it will help with lunches. :) This weekend I got an instruction book for sashiko stitching... so I was thinking perhaps I could stitch a chidori or a butterfly onto the Mr. Bento bag? :D?
I also picked up This out of print book from amazon... Japanese Stencil Dyeing. My guess is even if I dont end up bothering with the stencils, that I can learn from the resist tech inside. This one was recommended really highly by Kasuri DyeWorks (who seem to know a lot!) Not sure if I'm even remotely interested in Shibori. sounds way too tedious... but resist dyeing? YES!
... I'm also attempting to make an appliqued butterfly (for ALA) but so far failing pretty badly (how pathetic!) The main problem is pulling out the scallop's of the butterfly's wing after sewing the front and back together. I'm about ready to give up if I dont get it on my next try and just sew a circle skirt to make myself feel better. haha.
soooo, I've been trying to be frugal, but these were all on clearance and should help me get the layered look I like and also be warmer during our brief coldspell. I also got some really basic t's to replace some older ones, I plan to do some painting or embroidery on them for fun.

Layering so wins the day.
Oh, resist dying seems so fun! I've done a little bit of silk painting w/ resist and a tiny bit of batik..and that was fun..but this looks even more fun (and pretty..my my that book is lovely). Oh, fabric. O_O
