Kamikaze Girls = A++++ on all counts. highly recommend.
This was a really really funny movie with lots of heart. I really enjoyed it. There was lots of character based humor, which I love! It's basically a buddy movie about two girls who seem like total opposites begrudgingly becoming friends (but actually you find out that they are very similar despite appearances). The pop culture stuff in there is both interesting and sidesplitting, and I love the cinematography too. The main character, Momoko regularly starts floating in the air with her shoes sparkling as she daydreams. Its a really neat trick and the whole film has this animated, fanciful feeling to it. It's fabulous. (it also actually has a good deal of 2d animation in it too.) This film is not just for girls, and not just for people who like Lolita or biker gang stuff, I really would recommend it anyone.
It's only playing very limited engagements, so try to find it!! It's worth it, imho!

Corpse Bride = A+ animation / F- story and everything else
Really gorgeous to watch, and thinking about these puppets only being about a foot or two tall and having fully articulated armatures inside their foam faces (including eyebrow and jaw movement and smile muscles all inside a head that is only a few inches tall....) is just mind boggling. Very little CG was used in this film (only to facilitate long camera moves really, is what I heard) and the visuals are just great.
However there were very few scenes where I really cared about the characters, the story was flimsy,... and the songs were PAINFULLY BAD. The sad thing is that the idea for the story is actually kinda cool. It's too bad whoever executed the story, and fleshed it out, really kinda SUCKS. :( I was actually pretty bored in some parts, and the songs... OMG THE SONGS.... AGGGGGGH. (keep in mind this is coming from a girl who is very very forgiving of films if they are pretty, which this film was!) So I guess if you are an animation geek, go see it. Otherwise, maybe pass. Or bring a book to read.
