star wars geek question
Jun. 10th, 2005 02:35 pmThanks for the advice about my keyboard... I'm going to try to clean it out later... so sad... *_*...
HOWEVER! I have another question to pose to the void!
Those of you who are star wars fans/costumers, do you recommend any particular light sabers?
I was thinking about at some point costuming one of the not-so-well-known female jedi. (either Shaak Ti, or Luminari... but probably Luminari, because I dont think I'm ready to get into full prothetic work) if Luminari I'd need a GREEN lightsaber.
I know a few years ago, the only ones being done were really fragile blades, and didn't shine very bright in daylight.
If I got a saber, I'd want it to be VERY bright, accurate to the hilts in the movie, and have a sturdy blade.
any thoughts? does such a thing exist?

You could get a professional replica ... just google lightsaber replicas, there are a few people who make amazing ones.

(doubt that anyone of my friends would remember my 25th birthday, lol)
But such a saber only makes sense if the actual light blade part is somehow retractable...I'm looking for such a thing myself for cosplay purposes.

Date: 2005-06-10 10:39 pm (UTC)Jeff Parks (parksabers.com) makes great replicas, and he is one cool guy.
In Ye Olden Days, costumers (and fans) would make pretty good replicas of certain saber hilts using just cheap-o graflex flash handle. (These are the thingies the reporters in fedoras would be using to photograph murder suspects in old movies.) Unfortunately, when this became well known, the prices on graflex handles also rose.

From what I hear, they sound like sabers (when you 'clash' them together, they make that sound, and they also have that 'humming' sound when you swish them about). The price is similar to what is online, just over $100. They have a 'frosted' tubing around them, and at night when you turn it on, you can't see the tubing and it looks like a real saber lighting up. So cool.

Date: 2005-06-11 04:09 am (UTC)Anyway, my reccomentation is Glowwire. It's very bright in the daylight and can run off of various normal batteries. http://www.glowire.com/ A friend of mine made his saber using the largest type of glowire and looping in through a piece of clear PVC piping - and it looked AMAZING. He made his saber hilt out of a bunch of found objects too - metal pipe, shower knobs, you name it.
