iMac vs PowerMac G5?

aimeekittyso erm... my computer is aging a bit, and I do have a solid job and all so...
my current computer is a 500 Mhz G4.
(and then there's that WoW thing... but this has nothing to do with that hahaha...)
seriously though,.. my DVDRAM drive hasn't worked for a year, the CD drive in my computer doesnt work at all anymore... it's starting to be pretty slow when doing photoshop (and my new digital camera images are way too big to edit now... even if they are on medium setting...) and when I multitask in Safari it's um... yeah slow. this is after I have a ton of ram in it that I added. :\
the iMac is REALLY cool looking, but I imagine it's harder to add ram into it and add internal harddrives and that sort of thing huh? It's mean to be a more casual computer right? where as the powermac G5 is supposed to be more of a workhorse, so that would probably be a better suited thing for me?
If I got a new computer, could I take my 1 gig stick of ram and that new internal hardrive I got and put it in my new computer to make it even better???
Does a Dual processor REALLY HELP? Does it help $400 worth?
I dont think I can afford one yet but it's fun to think about it anyway...
