Some animators use special gloves with the thumb, forefinger, and middle finger cut out, to keep their work clean. Saw it on TV like 15 years ago, back when I was still hoping I could go to CalArts and be an animator someday. I tried it for a while. Worked pretty well. But nowadays I'm just a casual sketcher, so I don't worry about it as much. Hmm. I've got some non-repro blue pencils around here somewhere. I oughta pull those back into service now that I'm about to start my old comic strip (http://www.livejournal.com/community/lostboycomics) back up. Right now I'm only showing my old stuff. But pretty soon I'll be drawing new stuff again. Love seeing your art. Keep posting it when you can. ^_^
eh, I've never seen anyone use those things. unless you're using a really dark pencil (ie 6b) it shouldnt be that much of a problem especially for animation, where unless you are doing cleanup drawings (ie final line, etc) it doesnt matter. the line is important, but a slight gloss over of minor smudging doesnt matter at all.
in fact... I havent even seen clean up artists on animated films using one of those gloves either. I think they use 2b or under though.
I usually use col erase carmine red or colerase blue. the others arent soft enough for me. non-repro blue is a little too light for me, but everyone likes different things. ^_^
eh, just do whatever works for you. try things, but you know, just do what feels right. that's the best thing. ^_^ something that works for one person may not for another. I know guys who animate in permanent sharpies, and those who animate with HBs... there's all kinds
Animating with permanent sharpies??? I would die *__*
For myself, I have to have the confidence that I can go back and erase if I need to fix stuff (I'm more or less messy because I press too hard and go over the lines more than once--a habit I'm still trying to break).

Date: 2003-06-15 10:24 pm (UTC)when you scan in, and then take into photoshop, you can take the blue channel out, and thus, only happy graphite remains. :) ^_^
plus it's kinda my job to have a pretty clean hand.
