"This is the second time I've lost my job in six months!"

"then you need to get a job in one of the HOT carreers like webdesign or...
ANIMATION!"

"but that costs money"

"But it MAKES money!"

LOL! people making easy money in animation? wow. this commercial cracks me up every time. if I remember correctly, 85% of animators in the union right now are UNEMPLOYED.

BTW, added a bunch more people to my friends list. mostly cosplayers, whee.

going to Maya animation class now!

I hate those kinds of ads....they tend to trivialize the schooling that people go through and totally ignore the fact that even if you have the schooling, it's hard to get a decent job placement precisely because of the glut on the market. Everyone and their dog thinks they can do graphic design. (I know I'd never presume to call myself an animator, since the only thing I animate are gifs. Maybe if I learn Flash.)

Maybe they, uh, meant the other kind of "career in animation".

Like.... um...

*think think think*

Um...

Fetching coffee for the people in marketing? I'm told that's a fairly HOT, IN DEMAND career...

An aside:
Around the time that I graduated with my BA, the newspapers were buzzing over how employment was UP again for people with BAs. It was quickly pointed out that this coincided with Starbucks allowing people with BAs to apply for jobs without ruling them out as "overqualified."

It'd be funny if it weren't so sad.

ha ha,... they mean getting hopped up on coffee, and then YOU ARE ANIMATED!

In a commercial with webdesign, the 'animation' they are probably referring to is more like flash stuff and motion graphics. You know, big companies like lots of flashy 3D thingies to make them look all important. Apparently motion graphics is a BIG thing to get into. There arent that many people that do it yet, so companies will pay a lot of money for someone with skills.

...scary thing is, that sounds like a commercial the school I'm attending would air (Academy of Art).

I have a degree in psychology and I work as a program manager for telecommunications. Actually, I make more as a program manager than I would with a doctoral degree in psychology... go figure.
Sometimes you have to bit the bullet and go into something that makes money.

Hey! I know you have tons of great ideas for animates stories lines... why not write a script and sell that! I've noticed most of the great artists around here have awesome stories to go along with the artwork... you guys need to start selling ideas... Ideas sell a bit easier. If my friend who wrote a script in a couple of days could sell his lame idea, you guys should make a fortune selling your great ones. Think about it at least.

You actually have adverts like that in the US? Whoa, heh... that must be very embarrassing. Then again, we have other forms of stupid ads in England. :P

That's so amusing though... HEHE.

Ahh, the wonders of commercial advertising. *just barely passed midterm*

They do those kind of commercials with my school, too. I got sucked in. I'm paying 12,000 a year to learn things that... any common sense would provide.

And none of the people I'm with are artists.
