I'll be attending and doing a panel at Mission Viejo 2010 Readers' Festival September 25! My panel will be at 3pm. If you can, come out! As usual, if you have one of my books, I'm more than happy to sign it for you and do a little sketch in it, and I welcome questions about Japan Ai, costuming or animation.

And just a reminder, I'll have 4 pieces in Sweet Streets 2. I'll be attending the opening party on Sept 11th. (6%dokidoki and lots of other awesome folks will be there as well.)

FUTURAMA-
Make sure you watch Futurama tomorrow night! (Thurs) it's my second and last episode for this year! (There will be two more episodes I Assistant Directed next year.) I can't wait for you guys to see it. WATCH.

"There's too much going on here; you're evil, you're asthmatic, you're a robot. And why the cape? Are we going to the opera? I don't think so. ..."

Just got back from Costume College!
I'm still kinda running a bit ragged, so if you need something from me, please be patient. It's probably going to take me a week or so to catch up.

Re: Costume College I had a really great time and I'm looking forward to going back next year. Of course now I have like 50 historical dresses I want to make... everyone's dresses were SO AMAZING, I was constantly in state of envy. :D :D I had a lot of fun hanging out with people, too. Some of you I met last year and then I got to know you a bit better online and then getting to see you more this year was really great. :) :) I learned a lot in the classes (I made neat angelina-fiber fairy wings and half an Elizabethan corset)... and had a lot of fun.
If you're interested in historical costuming, you really should try Costume College! :)
Here's a couple quick photos. :)

One of the many gorgeous dresses over the weekend (and so many Victorian and 18th Century! My favorites!)

Judy and I had a few of our costumes in the exhibit. That was pretty exciting. :D

Kay, I'm going to go read some rose books and take a bath now and do a great deal of sleeping. <3

VIDEO OF THE SKIT:
Here's one from the lovely ACP:
http://www.acparadise.com/acp/vid/6059

Another video of the skit .... apologies, the videographer didn't cut wide enough, so it's a bit confusing, but at least you can see the costumes. Also, you can't really tell in the video,... but all of the suit's helmets light up. :)

I'm back from SDCC! Totally exhausted of course, but we had a great time!
The Futurama panel went really well. They showed the first act of Crystal's show, which featured Fry's comic book and a visit to Comic Con! (They gave out Fry's comic at the booth during the convention, too!) Her episode also features a costume contest. Haha. :) They also showed some clips from a lot of unaired episodes including Stephen and my mind-switching episode. Can't wait for you to see that one! :)

The actual SDCC masquerade this year had a ton of really awesome stuff, it was definitely an "on" year. Anything Goes School of Martial Arts had an amazing Muramasa group, there was a jawdropping Mass Effect group (with an alien with moving mouth!), awesome cabaret girls, Disney Princesses, amazing armor, MOTHRA, AMP suit... all kinds of stuff. I didn't think we'd win anything because there was so much awesome there, actually! (Even though the girls put in an obscene amount of work on their Bioshock costumes.) But we won Best Worksmanship! WOW! We were lame and forgot to take any photos of our costumes all together,... so I'll have to show you what we looked like later.

I also got to see a lot of lovely people! I wish I'd seen even more... so I'm already planning to go back next year for more days and do my booth again, so yay!

I feel like I've crossed the finished line now with SDCC over with. I still have a lot of work left on storyboards for my last episode of Futurama, though, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel ( I'm still going to be a bit busy for a week or two.) And Costume College is coming up, but I'm not making anything new for that. My birthday is coming up soon, too (Aug 9th)! Onward into late summer!

SDCC:
I won't have a booth this year, and I won't be at the convention until Thurs night. (We leave on Sun). If I see you, say hi! I'll probably wear Sleeping Beauty on Fri, otherwise, I'm just going to try and have fun catching up with people and enjoying the con.

I'll be competing in the masquerade with my HCC girls doing Bioshock on Saturday night. In fact, you can see some crazyass progress on their Bioshock costumes on our costume blog.

Other than that you can probably catch me at the Futurama Panel, they'll be showing world-premiere footage from my friend Crystal's episode, so if you can make it, go! It's hot back from Korea!
Also, you can check out my coworkers, Crystal and Derek's work and goods in the G-8 small press area.

FUTURAMA: Saturday, July 24
12:45-1:30 Ballroom 20
Futurama— Celebrate Futurama's triumphant re-return to the airwaves! World-premiere footage will offer an exciting and informative glimpse of Comic-Con in the year 3010. Panelists include executive producers Matt Groening and David X. Cohen, cast members Billy West, John DiMaggio, Katey Sagal, and Maurice LaMarche, director Crystal Chesney-Thompson, writers Ken Keeler and Patric M. Verrone, and animation producer Claudia Katz.

and for the Doctor Who meme today,... Day 06 – Whatever Tickles Your Fancy

ANIME EXPO -
I'm actually really looking forward to it. I won't be doing any selling or panels this year, I'm just going to hang out and cosplay. I did a rough muslin of my Fujimoto (Ponyo) suit pattern last night by rubbing off a pattern from a suit-jacket I have that fits like I want. Little iffy on the finishing bits of it (esp the collar), but I think I can figure it out by looking at my existing similar garments.
Mitch is excited about wearing his Kamina costume again, and if I'm feeling brave I'll probably wear Leeron. (Leeron's scary purple jumpsuit requires a certain amount of hutzpah to wear.) Regardless, just looking forward to the con.

FUJIMOTO's WIG
- I really wanted a slightly candy-color for Fujimoto's wig, but I'm having a horrible time finding one. The color is rare... all places that have the color are either japanese or chinese (which has language barrier or shopping service problems).... and so many stores say " you can have this wig in any color" but then you ask them about 4 different colors and they can't get them in any of them. :\ What I really want though is this wig from Airily, that's the color I want. But it's sold out. :( :( :( :(

SDCC/BIOSHOCK-
Just a reminder that I will not be doing any panels or selling at SDCC this year. My last Futurama deadline is right before the con, and I just need to take it easy this year. I will be GOING to SDCC, but mostly only on the weekend.

I probably haven't mentioned it on here but I'm going to be doing Bioshock with my girls for SDCC masquerade this year. You can see some of their insane progress work on HCC's journal. I'm mostly just there for moral support, handling and feeding them, but I will have an outfit. It just won't be an outfit with robot parts or mutations. Instead, I'll be wearing this 40's dress! It's actually my first real vintage pattern, I'm looking forward to messing around with it. And I'm sure I'll end up wearing the dress as a non-cosplay every-day dress, too. I like this style. I'll try to do a really nice clean job on it.

GARDEN -
Figured out I was actually UNDERwatering my lavender and camellia. I've been getting so much conflicting advice about how much to water that I was getting really frustrated. But one of the ladies at the nursery said that I should be doing a deep water (of about an hour or more) about once a week or once every two weeks. I did a deep water last night of the camellia and problem lavenders in particular, and already this morning the camellia's leaves look perkier, so it definitely was an underwater issue. I think I was watering too frequently, too shallowly. So I'm going to have to figure out the irrigation systems more and set up a once a week deep water, and have the other days just water the lawn only. I think it can do that. Overall I'm starting to get the hang of watching the plants for signs of what's wrong with them. So hopefully I'll get it all figured out eventually. I've only killed a few rogue plants. All the agapanthus, morea, roses(!) and trees are doing great and there's this one variety of penstemon that just does fabulous for me as well as one variety of lavender (grosso) that seems to be really happy, too.

MILKY PLANET -
Broke down and preordered Milky Planet skirt in yellow through a shopping service. It's so Candy Land! I figure the skirt will be the safest bet for me considering how ridiculously short this line appears to be. I'll figure out some way to modify it though to make it work if it's short, because this print is THAT AWESOME. I'll have to figure out some cute way to make a bodice to go with it. I loved the scallop on the JSK... so maybe I'll do something kind of like that (but with a white cloud scallop...?)

I'm back from Fanime and Fantaisies dans le Monde des Rêves!

I was mostly just there to shop, see friends and try to take it easy. I especially enjoyed seeing the fashion show and all the awesome stuff in the boutique and it was great to have dinners with lovely folks. I'm sorry that I missed some of you, though!

Hopefully I'll see some of you at the Zoolander WalkOff this weekend.

Just a quick pic for now, more details and photos later. <3

FANIME:
I am -definitely- going to Fanime, barring some horrible thing happening. Looking forward to seeing you guys. I'll go to some of the lovely Oneesan lolita events, and the rest of the time I'll just be taking it easy.

ART SHOW
It's going to be in Santa Monica on May 16th (Sunday). (I think? More info soon)
Please keep that date open if you're in the LA area!

More info later!

I had a blast at Gallifrey Doctor Who Convention! Sadly I've been threatening to get sick for the past week so my energy level was kinda low, so no 4 am Lobbycon for me. Kinda sad about that actually. I feel like an old woman. This week I plan to sleep a lot and read bad novels.
<3 I got to touch the real "wee beastie" Doctor coat fabric, played with OOD and saw the cheerleaders of Rassilon. Huge thanks to everyone who hung out, went to my panels, bought my art, listened to my bad karaoke and were generally awesome.

NOTE: am behind on things... if there's something important email me again.
But here, have a couple pics for now!

(I swear, I'm going to adopt you girls. <3 )

Crisso (as Rose), Mitch (the Doctor), me (Pompadour) and Judy (clockwork droid, not seen here) did a skit to Annie Lennox' Broken Glass. All of us have had a pretty busy/harsh month, so we didn't have as much time to prepare, make props or rehearse as we would have liked. We had fun though and did NOT fall off the stage or on each other, so I consider that success. <3

This is a new piece I did for Gallifrey Doctor Who convention this weekend at LAX Marriott! (it's kinda "The Doctor and Rose" ala the Simpsons or Futurama)
Some of my originals and prints will be for sale in the art show including The Doctor's Daughter which was featured on the Gallifrey Postcards.

See you at the con! If you go and see me, please say hi! I don't always remember or pay attention (I'm a bit Dorey) but I look forward to hanging out with you guys! :) My Gallifrey Schedule and more info is here.

also, new who trailer! (EASTER!)

SO WHO'S GOING TO GALLIFREY this weekend? I'll be there Fri-Sunday. Say hi and lets all be geeks together!

Doesn't this look kinda like a screenshot? :D It's not, it's Mitch!
My geeky little heart is very happy right now.

Thanks to Magnoli (tie), Baron's (suit), Justin (fabric and research), and Steve (fabric and research), husbando has a custom Doctor Who suit! If you want to see a quickie-photo of Mitch wearing his suit full body. The details and all the pockets are super fabulous. I can't believe we were able to somehow get this done in time for Gallifrey! (No thanks to me. haha) AMAZING MAGIC! I HATE making suits. It was SO WORTH IT to get this suit done. :D Now I have more time to make more ballgowns! ... and still somehow I'm still not done with Madame de Pompadour yet. ARGH. I just really haven't had time to work on it. Crisso and I did get the masq audio track done and fit her for part of her costume... inbetween playing with her new kittens.

They have the schedule up, too!
I'll be there the whole convention. I'm really looking forward to it, it's a really fun con. If you like Doctor Who or Torchwood, don't miss out!

~~~~ART SHOW - I'll have prints of some of my color Doctor Who artwork up, and I'll be doing at least one new piece just for Gallifrey. I might have some originals, too.
SUNDAY~~~~
~~10 am - P4 - Costuming 210 (helping on panel)
There's lots of great discussion panels, lots of writers from the show coming, Chicks Dig Timelords, lots of cast and companion actors from the show,... lots of fun stuff!
Costume-wise,... I'll be bringing my Stolen Earth + Doomsday Rose Tyler, Madame De Pompadour and my husband will be doing Captain Jack and the Tenth Doctor again, most likely. If you're curious, I'll be wearing Pompadour Sat afternoon into the evening, otherwise I'll be in Rose.
You know, events are fun mainly because of who you hang out with. That and awesome crazy random happenstances. You can have fun almost anywhere when you're with quality people.
DORKS REPRESENT!
I finally got to wear my Snow Bunny dress! Thanks for helping me decide on the brown, you guys, and bearing with my ridiculous whinging about it. Actually, I think I'm starting to really enjoy some more classic-lolita things more (not more than sweet, but just "also".) So I think brown was definitely the right choice. Also, my new Bordello boots, which in the end, cost me A LOT, because one online seller totally ripped me off and I had to buy from another second seller. :( Man, what's the deal, can't trust random strangers on the net anymore! Still worth it though, they're gorgeous and it's so hard for me to find stuff like this.
more later. <3
does anyone know if there's some way to do a live-feed with a FLIP camera or a normal digital camera (recording video)...?
specifically, can I do a live webcast in this way?
Also, can I do a live demonstration at a convention this way...? what would I need to do this sort of thing?
I guess I could always use a WACOM with a laptop hooked up to projection, but I prefer to draw/color by hand and not on the computer for demos.
I know we used to have drawing demos at calarts with cameras hovering over physical drawing desk.... hooked up to a projection system, but I don't know. my geek-fu is lacking.
aimeekitty: (Default)
Hey dolls,
is there something in particular that you'd like to see me suggest or do as a PANEL for GALLIFREY Doctor Who Convention this year?
I'm able to do art demos, costuming panels, Japan Ai panel,... animation production panel, that sort of thing. ... I guess I could do one about my Doctor Who art...? Wonder if I could do a art demo with my FLIP. HMMM....
(or suggest to me something else entirely).
Really looking forward to the con. I had a total blast last year.
Also, I'm a huge dork and my husband is a-dork-able in his Captain Jack and 10th Doctor costumes. XD And this year I'll have my Madame de Pompadour, finally! I'm having fun dreaming about LACE. MMM. LACE. I LIKE LACE.
RE: ARTWORK FOR SALE IN THE ART SHOW:
Last year it seemed like people didn't really care whether the item was an original or a print, so unless people tell me otherwise, I'll probably mostly be selling prints (not originals) this year of various Who artwork I did recently. (main reason being that it's a lot more work for me to create the artwork in a fashion so that there "IS" an original. I tend to work with markers on one level and pencil on another, so there is not 'one nice looking original' typically.)
If you have any requests for me to bring specific prints, let me know! I'll probably do a couple new pieces to premiere at the convention, too.
